Reading is personal, and it takes a specific person to know how your child learns, how they learn to read, and eventually love to read.

I’m Paige Sottek.

I’m the founder of Book Forest Tutoring.

1:1 Sessions

Just you and your adventure guide! Sometimes, it can be hard to focus in the classroom setting, but these intentional sessions will target specific areas of reading and writing needs that eventually will result in a foundational love of literacy.

Personalized Curriculum

After being in the classroom for many years, my team and I have many tools and resources in our backpacks. Whether it’s helping with homework or helping you teach a class, we will personalize our tutoring curriculum to help you meet your child’s needs.

Areas of Focus

  • Reading

There are books that you have to read, and books that you want to read. The goal is first and foremost to get a book into your student’s hands that they want to read, so when they must read, they feel prepared and confident in doing so.

In our sessions, we will exercise muscles that build fluency and stamina which has been proven to improve the reading rate for students. Fast reading develops confidence and an appetite to read for pleasure.

  • Writing

We believe students are capable of forming beautiful, original thought. We also believe your student has a story worth telling, information worth sharing, and that they can use their writing to persuade others and affect change.

In your sessions, your tutor will help the student self-select topics, leading to independence. Your tutor will also increase their stamina to write for extended periods of time. We will provide feedback and assistance and give them mini-lessons on particular strategies or techniques to try.

  • Grammar

Grammar is the foundation that provides students the ability to read and write with ease.

However, it is not always “cool” to sit down and learn about parts of speech, sentence structure, and comma rules.

When students ask, “Why do I have to know this?” We will be able to find the answer in the books we read and the stories we write.

The best writers have to know the rules to break the rules. And the best readers can find when the rule is broken and why it is so.
